Fishing with confidence

Over the last few years, with more or less success, me and my friends are trying to fish bluefish and sea bass, especially in the winter or early spring period. Bluefish are sometimes elusive and very cautious, often will follow offered lure in the flock, but will not bite it. Sometimes they rise to the surface, then you can successfully fish on a variety of top water models or with streamers and fly rod. But they are more often at the bottom of the sea, and then you need to offer a cheery, sinking lure that will provoke a bite. Duo Tide Minnow 75 Sprint is the lure with whom I have by far the most success in fishing and just contributed to a feeling of self-confidence, that has often been compromised with this "hard to catch on lure" fish. Now, if I know where the flock of smaller sizes bluefish is, my first choice will be Tide Minnow 75 Sprint. Second choice, is somewhat thinner, and thus rapid sinking lure Duo Spearhead Ryuki 80s. Both will promptly react on twitching and jerking rod actions. Allow them to sink to the bottom, and then start to work with the rod. Work in all layers of water, with pauses and sharp strokes with the rod, giving unpredictable action with speed changing and breaks, that will fool the bluefish. Be careful, if the fish size are bigger, they could go with your lure. In this case only steel wire can save it from sharp teeth. Both lures are great for sea bass too, but sometimes you need to reduce intensity of jerking with rod, and be a gentler than with bluefish. Note that both models are widely used in river fishing, about which more will be said later.
